G 24 Hours Digital Bureau: Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri claimed that India does not support the remarks made by the ousted prime minister in a coup in Bangladesh criticizing the current interim government. External Affairs Secretary Vikram Mishri gave this information to the Parliamentary Standing Committee headed by Congress leader Shashi Tharu on Wednesday. He said, this issue is creating a barrier in the relations between the two countries. He said that India’s relationship with Bangladesh is not limited to any political party or government. India prioritizes relations with the people of Bangladesh and will maintain relations with any government.

Regarding the statement coming from Sheikh Hasina, she said that she is using a ‘private connective device’ and the Indian government has not given her any platform or facility through which she can conduct her political activities from India. It is India’s tradition to avoid interfering in the internal affairs of other countries. India’s statement is important in the context of Sheikh Hasina’s message, where she is criticizing the interim government.
The Foreign Secretary said, ‘India does not support Sheikh Hasina’s statements criticizing the interim government of Bangladesh. It is a small hindrance in the relations between the two countries.’ After his visit to Dhaka, Mishri told the committee that he had made it clear to the interim government that India’s relationship with Bangladesh was beyond ‘any special party’ or government. He said India prioritizes relations with the people of Bangladesh and works closely with each government. He also said that India is concerned about attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. But it was a relief to see that the government there arrested 88 people involved in the violence.

According to the report of The Hindu, some members of the committee raised the issue of arresting saints associated with ISKCON in Bangladesh, but Mishri did not respond to it. He also said that the interim government of Bangladesh is claiming to be exaggerating these incidents, but credible organizations have documented these incidents, which cannot be ignored. Misri said he expressed concern over the decision to release several convicted terrorists involved in anti-India rhetoric.
