The kings of Spain and the photographer Annie Leibovitz have visited this morning the exhibition “The tyranny of Cronos”, where the American artist has presented to her Majesty the portraits she took by commission of the Bank of Spain.
The photographs of the kings are the most recent incorporations to the gallery of portraits of the collection of the Bank of Spain, which houses pictorial representations of all the reigning monarchs from the origins of the institution and of all its governors. For the first time, Annie Leibovitz uses the photographic technique to portray the protagonists, but his work shares the same artistic vision of the commission that other creators already applied in their day, such as Goya – also present in the exhibition.
“The tyranny of Cronos” also brings together a selection of watches and works from the Banco de España collection, signed by artists of various backgrounds and historical moments that explore the conception of time in Western society.
The exhibition can be visited until May 31, for free, prior reservation of entrance, in the exhibition hall of the Bank of Spain, in the Plaza de Cibeles, in Madrid
