G 24 Hours Digital Bureau: Big win for India. The US Supreme Court ordered the extradition of Tahaur Rana to India. But who is this Rana? Incidentally, Tahaur Hussain Rana is a 64-year-old Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin. Rana, a former Pakistan Army doctor, migrated to Canada in the early 90s. Later he moved to America. Rana also started a company called First World Immigration Services in Chicago. One of this runner’s friends is David Headley and this David is one of Mumbai Hamala’s wheelers. He was arrested in America in connection with the 2008 Mumbai terror attack. In 2009, Rana was arrested in America for supporting Hedley and the Lashkar militant group.

The US Supreme Court ordered the extradition of Tahaur Hussain Rana, one of the accused in the 26/11 Mumbai attack, to India. In 2013, the American court sentenced him to 14 years in prison. In 2020, keeping health in mind, the administration decided to release him. Then in 2023, the Mumbai Police filed a chargesheet against Rana in a special court. Then the tension to hand over Rana to India started.

The Indian government has been seeking Rana’s extradition for more than a decade to bring him to justice for his role in helping to carry out the Mumbai attacks. In the Mumbai attack, 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba entered Mumbai and carried out a series of attacks across the city. As a result, 166 people were killed, including 6 American citizens. India’s major diplomatic victory after so many years will give new hope to India-US relations.
