Dhaka recently sent a ‘diplomatic letter’ to New Delhi asking for the return of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Even the issue of Sheikh Hasina’s extradition has been practically softened by the foreign advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh, Touhid Hossain said, even if Hasina is not returned, the relationship with India will not be lost!

But this time, Bangladesh turned around and said that if India does not return Sheikh Hasina, it will violate the agreement. Asif Nazrul, Adviser on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs of the country said that it would be a clear violation of the extradition agreement that India has with Bangladesh. Stating that a red alert has been issued against Sheikh Hasina through Interpol, the legal adviser said, “We are doing whatever we have to do.” If there is anything else to do, we will do it on a case-by-case basis.
Bangladesh’s foreign ministry had sent a diplomatic note to India demanding Hasina’s extradition to face trial for ‘genocide’ during the July revolution. Dhaka claimed that Hasina would be returned on the basis of the ‘extradition agreement’ with India. It is understood that Bangladesh is still optimistic about Hasina’s return to India. The political parties of Bangladesh i.e. BNP, Jamaat are putting pressure on the interim government to return Hasina.
