BSNL: Jio, Airtel, Vodafone – All telecom companies have increased their tariffs from July this year. And since then the customers are inclined towards using the services of BSNL. As per statistics till October, 2024 more than 5.5 million users have ported phone number to BSNL connection. And it is true that compared to Airtel, Vodafone and Jio currently BSNL recharge cost is quite a bit less. Maybe the service of the rest of the telecom companies is patchy. In that respect, the government telecom company BSNL is still quite a bit behind. In many cases the users have to face many problems while getting the service. But still customers are leaning towards BSNL.
According to Department of Telecommunications (DoT) data, this trend of migration from other telecom companies to BSNL has been seen since July this year (2024). 1.5 million users from Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea joined BSNL in July. This number increased to 2.1 million in August. 1.1 million in September and 0.7 million in October. 63,709 numbers were ported to BSNL in June before other telecom companies got the tariff hike. But at that time many users also stopped using BSNL. The number of migrations from BSNL to other telecom networks is also around 0.4 million. But the rate of number porting from BSNL to other telecom companies has decreased slightly since Jio, Airtel, Vodafone started increasing their tariffs. The number was 0.31 million in July, 0.26 million in August, 0.28 million in September and 0.51 million in October.
Now let’s talk about the SIM card. In June, 2024, BSNL company sold 790000 SIMs. That number rose to 4.9 million in July, 5 million in August, 2.8 million in September and 1.9 million in October. On the other hand, according to the data of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Jio, Vodafone and Airtel together have added 10 million users in September this year. Jio lost 7.9 million users. Airtel 1.4 million and Vodafone 1.5 million user-subscribers. On the other hand, BSNL’s MD and Chairman Robert Ravi said that their company has no plans to increase the tariff in the near future.
