Optica (formerly OSA), the Society for the Promotion of Creation, Application, Archiving and Distribution of Knowledge of Light Research, distinguishes Prof. Jürg Leuthold with Joseph Fraunhofer Prize/Robert M. Burley Prize 2025. Prof. Leuthold, head of the Institute for Electromagnetic Fields (IEF), is honored for his pioneering work in the field of plasonal components and in particular for the development of broadband modulators and detectors with the highest bandwidths.
Prof. Leuthold’s research interests lie in the areas of photonics, plasmonics and THZ with a focus on applications in high -speed communication and sensors. In the past 10 years, his research group has brought the area of plasmonics ahead by developing some of the fastest optical modulators and detectors. He is part of a group of earlier award winners who were recognized for their outstanding contributions in the field of optical procedures.
With the Joseph Fraunhofer Prize/Robert M. Burley Prize, significant research achievements in the field of optical research are recognized. The Fraunhofer Prize was launched in 1982. The accompanying award was launched in 1992 and honors the memory of Robert M. Burley, who was the first bearer of the Fraunhofer Prize.
