Mobile Tariff Plans: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India aka TRAI on Monday announced several important consumer-centric changes in the twelfth edition of its Telecom Consumer Protection Act 2024. The most important of all the plans is that TRAI has directed the telecom operators in the country to come up with new tariff plans (Mobile Recharge) with only SMS and voice call facilities for the benefit of the customers. About 15 crore 2G users in the country will benefit through this. And at the same time, those customers who have a second SIM card (Mobile Tariff) only for calling and messages, they will also benefit. As a result, even if you do not use the Internet, you will not have to pay extra money for it and the customer will save costs.
Currently, many 2G users are forced to take bundled recharge plans that include voice calls and messages along with internet data benefits that they may not use at all. This policy change will have a major impact on service providers like Airtel and Vodafone Idea. But since Reliance Jio only provides 4G and 5G services, there will be no change in their case.
What else did TRAI say?
At this time telecom operators are focusing more on bundle plans where data benefits, voice calling and SMS charges are bundled together. Even OTT services are included which help increase the company’s Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). This new policy is expected to be an easier and cost-effective option for consumers.
TRAI said these proposals have been made following extensive consumer surveys and consultation with all stakeholders. These offerings are designed to ensure that customers get better value for their money while catering to the diverse needs of telecom customers.
Another of these is to extend the validity of Special Tariff Voucher (STV). Operators will now have to offer STVs with a validity of up to 365 days compared to the current limit of 90 days. These vouchers are usually more affordable than standard plans, making them attractive to cost-conscious consumers.
