Life in treason, how bail is possible? The court rejected Chinmaykrishna’s plea

Life in treason, how bail is possible? The court rejected

Chittagong: Monk Chinmaykrishna Das did not get bail even in the new year. Chittagong court again rejected his bail plea. Monk Chinmayakrishna was jailed for more than a month. A case of impeachment has been filed against him. Opposing Chinmaykrishna’s bail, the government lawyer argued that the sedition case carried a life sentence. How can bail be granted after this? (Chinmoy Krishna Das)

Chinmayakrishna’s lawyer Apoorva Bhattacharya told ABP Anand that now they are planning to apply for bail in the High Court. The bail application was heard in the Chittagong City Sessions Court on Thursday. After listening to the questions and answers of both parties for half an hour, the judge ordered to reject the bail application. After the hearing, 11 lawyers of Sannyasya led by Apurba Bhattacharya left the court under police security. (Bangladesh News)

Sessions Judge Mohammed Saiful Islam heard Chinmakrishna’s bail application on Thursday morning. Chinmaykrishna’s lawyers said the monk is completely innocent. He has been wrongly implicated in this case. Chinmaykrishna did not appear in court that day. He attended the court hearing through virtual medium.

Chittagong District Lawyers Association President Nazimuddin Chowdhury said in the media, “The state side objected to the bail hearing. It is said that this is a treason case. The maximum sentence is life. The court did not grant bail. But there is an opportunity to appeal to the high court.”

Earlier, Chinmaykrishna’s bail application was rejected in the Chittagong court on November 26. Chinmoy, the spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sammlit Sanatani Jagran Jot, was arrested in a sedition case on the charge of insulting the national flag. The long tension continues over that. It has also affected the mutual relations between the two countries. Anti-India slogans were also heard in the court premises during the hearing.

Tight security arrangements were made in the court premises today around Chinmaykrishna’s bail hearing. No one except lawyers, officers and employees was allowed to enter the court. Sheikh Hasina’s government fell in Bangladesh on August 5. Since then there have been incidents of attacks on minority Hindus. Chinmaykrishna was holding meetings about that. In one such rally, there was a complaint of hoisting the ocher flag over the national flag. A sedition case was filed on October 25 and October 30. He was first detained from Shahjalal International Airport on November 25. He was later arrested.
