The outbreak of HMP or Human Metapneumovirus is thus reminiscent of a terrifying episode four years ago. Corona-cal. The corona that set foot in 2020, like many countries in the world, also devastated India. Millions of deaths. Lockdown day after day. Loss of income, pain of loss of relatives, made life miserable. Those pictures from just four years ago are still fresh in everyone’s memory. The HMP virus has several similarities with that corona virus. How to differentiate between HMP virus and Covid? Critical care specialist Amitabh Saha gave a special interview to ABP Anand on this issue.
Critical care specialist Amitabh Saha said, ‘Other viruses, which usually occur during our seasonal changes, have the same symptoms this time. There is a specific symptom, which we saw in Covid, that the sufferers could not smell. That is not the case here. Or, let’s say, when we saw in Covid, with very respiratory infections, we were talking about a thing called happy hyperoxia at that time. The patient’s oxygen is decreasing, but the patient does not understand. They are slightly different from this virus.’
COVID-19 or Corona virus also started spreading from China. This time too, a type of HMP virus infection has started spreading in China. The timing of the spread of the virus in India is also the same. Corona infection in India started from January. On January 30, 2020, India reported its first case of coronavirus. HMP virus infections also started to surface in January. Doctors say that the HMP virus has several other similarities with the corona virus.
Corona infection mainly spreads in the upper respiratory tract, i.e. the airway. HMP virus infection also spreads there. The symptom of corona virus was fever. HMP virus infection also causes fever. But in the case of corona, the taste and smell of the victims would have gone. Experts say that no symptoms have been seen in this case. Corona virus spreads through sneezing and coughing. Doctors say HMP virus can also be spread through sneezing and coughing. People with other diseases, i.e. those with comorbidities, were at the highest risk of contracting the virus. Same is the case with HMP.

But the hope is, doctors say, this virus is not unknown or new like Covid. This virus is already known. HMPV is one of the influenza and virus outbreaks that increase in different countries during winter. However, transmission of the virus may be a concern for children and those with chronic illnesses or those with weakened immune systems. So can HMP virus take a deadly form like Corona in the coming days? Or what is rotting, it is actually a business of intimidation? It will become clear in the coming days.
