Gautam Mandal, Kakdwip : 95 fishermen of Kakdwip subdivision have returned home from Bangladesh. Yesterday, the Chief Minister informed from the meeting of the sea, about the torture of the Bangladeshi Navy on these fishermen. The torture was heard from the mouths of fishermen who returned to Bangladesh. Many even cried while describing the torture. Faced with this torture, Gunamani Das jumped into the river. He has not been found since then.
Subhash Das, a tortured fisherman back in Bangladesh said, "killed me I mean, pushed back. They have a lot of speed. Why come to my border and take me? That’s why I argued with him a little. Beat me in anger. Then 5 of my men fell into the water. When the boat tilts, it falls. It was not allowed to pick up, even with great difficulty I picked up 4 people. No one else was allowed to find it. It was 3 o’clock in the night on October 16. I still have a guy. Says, can’t stay here. Indian Coast Guard may come. Say, turn on and drag him. Everyone is tied with a rope. Everyone starts beating. My son cried. People cried. Boots step on my neck. Beat underfoot. I fainted. Son says, my father has chest problem. He left his father. Otherwise, my father will not live. I said, give me some water. Say, Indian. You cannot be given water."
Satinath Patra, Secretary of Sundarban Marine Fishermen Workers Union said, "Many times in the past, the fishermen of this country have entered the Bangladesh water boundary. But never was so much torture done. This time, in the wake of the unrest in Bangladesh, the torture has exceeded the limit. Of the 95 people, 22 were seriously injured. They are being treated."
