Salim Reza, Dhaka: East Timor President Jose Ramos Horta has arrived in Dhaka on a four-day visit to Bangladesh. He arrived in Dhaka on a special flight of Singapore Airlines after 10:30 pm on Saturday.
Horta was welcomed at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Nobel-winning economist Dr. Bangladesh Interim Government Chief Advisor. Muhammad Yunus. The President of East Timor was given a red carpet welcome at the airport.
Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh told the Bangladesh representative of G24 Hours that Jose Ramos Horta will visit Bangladesh on December 14-17. There will be a visa exemption agreement for holders of official and diplomatic passports on his visit. Besides, an announcement will be made regarding the opening of East Timor’s Honorary Consulate in Dhaka during his visit.

According to the draft schedule, the foreign advisor of Bangladesh had a courtesy meeting with the President of East Timor this morning. Touhid Hossain. In the afternoon, the chief advisor of Bangladesh. President Horta met Yunus. The two top leaders spoke privately for some time in the Chief Adviser’s office. Later, Yunus-Horta sat in a meeting with the delegation. After the meeting they held a joint press conference. After that, the Memorandum of Understanding regarding Visa Waiver Agreement and Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) was signed in the presence of the two top leaders.
President Horta will meet the President of Bangladesh at Bangabhaban in Dhaka on Monday, the third day of the visit. On this day, he will pay tribute to the memory of the martyrs of Bangladesh’s independence war at Savar National Memorial. He will participate in the program organized on the occasion of 54th Victory Day of Bangladesh.

President Horta will address the theme ‘The Challenges of Peace in the Contemporary World’ at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIIS) auditorium on December 17. Later he will hold a meeting with Bangladeshi students and young leaders.
In the afternoon of the same day, he will address the students and youth of Bangladesh about his country’s experience of the freedom struggle, his leadership, the role of the people in the long struggle and the aspirations of the people of Timor-Leste after independence and its implementation.
