Digital Arrest Scam IIT Bombay student loses 7 lakh rupees

Cyber Crime: A 25-year-old student of IIT Bomba has made 7 lakh rupees in cyber crime. According to the statement of Mumbai Police, the fraudsters made this student a prisoner in digital arrest as a government official and looted money (Digital Arrest Scam). Digital arrest cases are increasing in the country and new cases have been added to that list. How was lost so many lakhs of money?

In July, the student received a call from an unknown number. The person on the other end of the phone claimed to be a government official from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. He informed that 17 complaints have been lodged against his mobile number for involvement in criminal activities in the name of that student. The fraudsters also told him that because of this his mobile number would be deactivated, he would have to submit a No Objection Certificate from the police to prevent the deactivation. He was then told that his call was being transferred to the Cyber ​​Crime Branch.

A Mumbai Police official said regarding the incident, the student received a video call on WhatsApp. And on picking up that call, one can see a police uniform sitting on the other side of the phone. The fake cop then asks the student for his Aadhaar number and informs that the student is involved in a financial fraud case. And so he has to deposit 29,500 through UPI. In no time the fake cop informs the student that he has been digitally arrested and that he cannot call anyone during this time.

The day after this incident the fraudsters again called him and forced him to know all the information including his bank account and looted 7 lakh 29 thousand rupees. When the student realizes that he has been cheated, he lodges a complaint with the police at the police station.
