Dhaka: A petition to ban ISKCON in Bangladesh was rejected. The High Court of Bangladesh dismissed the application. The judge informed that the court will not take any decision on its own initiative. The court heard a petition seeking to ban ISKCON in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh government also refers to ISKCON as a ‘religious fundamentalist organisation’. But today that application was rejected. The situation in Bangladesh is hot due to the arrest of monk Chinmaykrishna Das. After this there were demands to ban ISKCON in Bangladesh. The interim government of Muhammad Yunus also stated their position in the court about that today. What steps have been taken so far to prevent violence and unrest, they told the court. However, the government of Bangladesh has not said anything for or against banning ISKCON. Rather, it is reported that the government is taking sufficient steps. The government is not sitting idle. Deputy Attorney General Mohammad Asaduddin was present in the court that day. The Deputy Attorney General explained the steps taken by the government in the bench of Justice Parha Mahbub and Debashis Roy Chowdhury. He said that the government is dealing with the situation with a firm hand. He said that so far three cases have been filed in this incident. In one, 13, 14 and 49 persons have been identified as accused. 33 people were arrested. Six others were identified through CCTV. The police are quite active.
On this day, the court expressed concern about unrest and violence. Commenting that no one can be allowed to break law and order. In response to this, the Bangladesh government said that attempts are being made to create instability in the country. Strict measures are being taken to prevent violence. The whole matter is being looked at with priority.
Petitioner Mohammad Moniruzzaman presented a photo in the court against this. It was Moniruzzaman, a lawyer by profession, who petitioned to ban ISKCON. But the judges told him that the government is taking the matter seriously. His anxiety is expected to go away soon. The court said that the judges are satisfied with the government’s action. So they refrain from giving instructions.
On the other hand, the international community is also worried about the situation in Bangladesh. Diaspora Indians have demanded US President Joe Biden’s intervention. There are allegations that ISKCON’s center has been forcibly closed in Shivchar, Bangladesh. Radharman Das, vice president of ISKCON in Kolkata expressed concern over the situation.
