China to build Worlds Larges Hydropower dam over River Brahmaputra Where India also has its interest

China to build Worlds Larges Hydropower dam over River Brahmaputra

New Delhi: China has announced the construction of the world’s largest dam in Tibet. They said that the dam will be built on the Brahmaputra river. They have plans to generate three times more hydropower than before. The new dam will be built on sensitive land in the Himalayan region. Where the dam will be constructed is very close to the Indian border. India’s concern about that increased. (China Dam in Tibet)

Currently, the title of the world’s largest dam is held by the ‘Three Gorges Dam’. The dam is located in central China’s Hubei province. The American research organization NASA has already expressed concern about the dam. According to NASA, the Earth’s rotation has decreased by 0.06 percent due to the ‘Three Gorges Dam’. China has announced the construction of a bigger dam. They plan to generate three times more hydropower than the Three Gorges Dam. (China Dam on Brahmaputra River)

Brahmaputra river is known as Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibet. China has announced the construction of a new dam on it. But China’s construction of new dams in the sensitive Himalayan mountain region has raised concerns. Because that region is not only geographically weak, but also an earthquake prone area. The intensity of earthquakes is also very high there. Delhi is concerned about the monstrous dam.

After China’s announcement last week, Delhi opened its mouth on the issue. It has been said that India will protect its interests in the region. It also sends a message to China that no matter how many dams Beijing builds, India has rights to the river’s waters. India also said that there should be transparency in the construction of dams. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday that they are monitoring the situation. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said appropriate action will be taken if necessary.

According to experts, the water flow of Brahmaputra will also be affected if the dam is constructed in that area. Besides, the Brahmaputra valley will also be affected. During the construction of the dam, it is feared that drought may occur in the region and subsequent devastating floods. Millions of people can be affected by this. In particular, the lives of Indians living in the lower reaches of the river basin may be threatened.

China’s construction of the dam is expected to have an impact on states like Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The Ministry of External Affairs said that discussions on the issue have started at the diplomatic level. Concerns have been reported to China. Delhi is also of the opinion that China should sit in discussions with India on this. The role of this dam is going to be important in geopolitical field as well. There is already a conflict between the two countries over the border.
According to the information available so far, the dam will become the world’s largest hydroelectric power station when the construction is completed. The dam is proposed to be built on the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, which is the lower reaches of the Brahmaputra.

It is proposed to be built on the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau. China is going to build the giant dam under the 14th Five Year Plan. It is said that 3000 crore kilowatt-hours of electricity will be generated annually from there. The construction cost of the project will be 13,700 crores, which is about 12 lakh crores in Indian currency. Earlier, 14 lakh people were displaced during the construction of the ‘Three Gorges Dam’. The new dam is going to be three times bigger than that. China has not yet made it clear how many people may be relocated.
