Dhaka: Bangladesh attacked India again with the persecution of minorities. Dhaka has also alleged that the Indian media is spreading false information about Bangladesh. India’s concern about the situation in Bangladesh is unfair and India’s attitude towards the security of minorities is a sign of duplicity, the neighboring country has complained. (Bangladesh News)
Since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, allegations of attacks against the minority Hindus in Bangladesh have been continuously coming up. The international community also reacted strongly to the arrest of monk Chinmaykrishna Das. It is in this context that Asif Nazrul, the advisor to the Ministry of Law of Bangladesh, has accused India of double standards. He directly attacked the Narendra Modi government at the Center and the BJP. (Chinmoy Krishna Das Arrested)
Highlighting a survey, Asif wrote in a Facebook post, ‘64.1 percent of the people of Bangladesh think that the interim government can provide more security to the minorities than the Awami League. We have seen for ourselves how the people of Bangladesh, including student organizations, madrassas and political parties, have worked for the safety of minorities during the recent Durga Puja. Even after the brutal killing of lawyer Saiful Islam in Chittagong, the Muslims of Bangladesh have shown infinite restraint and patience.
Asif also writes, ‘Despite this, India’s undue concern for the situation in Bangladesh has not stopped. There are countless incidents of atrocities on the people of the minority Muslim community in India’s own soil. But they have no hesitation or regret about it. This duplicity of India is reprehensible and offensive’.
Mohammad Yunus, the chief advisor of the country’s interim government, has claimed that false information is being spread about the situation in Bangladesh. His chief adviser Shafiqul Alam said in a statement, “We have to speak up, otherwise (Indian media) will create their own commentary”. There are also complaints from Bangladesh that spreading false information against the country has been taken to the level of industry. A protest meeting was also organized on the campus of Dhaka University. Besides, the demand for Hasina’s extradition also arose.
Delhi has already expressed concern over the arrest of monks in Bangladesh. The intervention of US President Joe Biden was also demanded on behalf of diaspora Indians. But Chinmaykrishna is still in jail. While the court rejected the demand to ban ISKCON in the country, several of their bank accounts were reportedly frozen. Some of the diplomats fear that the bitterness between the two countries may increase in such a situation.
