G 24 Hours Digital Bureau: 5 billion dollars wasted in building nuclear power plants. The total allocation is $12.65 billion. Almost half of them are Happis. A commission was formed to investigate the embezzlement of that huge amount of money in the construction of Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. Allegedly, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajib Wazed Joy and daughter Tulip Siddi transferred the money through offshore accounts in Malaysia. Apart from this, it has been said in another complaint involving the family of Tulip Siddique. They laundered huge amount of money through bogus company “Prachhaya Limited” and “Zumana Investments” established in UK. Although this project was started with the aim of meeting the energy needs of Bangladesh, it has been questioned due to allegations of corruption and financial irregularities.

Note that in 2013, Tulip mediated Bangladesh’s agreement with Russia to build a nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. Where the cost of the project was overestimated. Basically, Tulip Siddique has come under the comprehensive investigation that the Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission has started against Tulip Siddique’s aunt Sheikh Hasina.

The ACC has launched an investigation against Sheikh Hasina’s sister Sheikh Rehana, several family members and several officials of the Awami League government. Sheikh Hasina, who has been in power for more than 20 years in Bangladesh, is seen as a dictator, with her government harshly suppressing dissent, the Sunday Times reported. Incidentally, Tulip Siddique was elected MP from Hampstead and Highgate constituency in North London in 2015. The seat is adjacent to Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s seat of Hoburn and St Pancras.
