The Supreme Court of Bangladesh granted a stay on the judgment of the High Court in 2020, supporting the appeal of Muhammad Yunus government in the Supreme Court. As a result, after the departure of Sheikh Hasina, the Bangladesh government wants to delete Sheikh Mujib too. Such is the speculation in political circles.

In 2017, the lawyer of the Supreme Court asked to declare ‘Joy Bangla’ as the national slogan. Bashir Ahmed wrote.
On December 4, 2017, the High Court issued a ruling on the hearing of that writ. The High Court wanted to know why ‘Joy Bangla’ should not be declared as the national slogan in the ruling.
On March 10, 2020, the High Court bench comprising of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Quader gave a verdict declaring Jai Bangla as the national slogan.
During the announcement of the verdict, the court observed, ‘Joy Bangla is the slogan of national unity. “Jai Bangla” is included in the constitution along with the beloved slogan of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and “Jai Bangla” speech of March 7.
The court further said, ‘The petitioner’s claim to include Jai Bangla as the national slogan in continuation of Article 3 and 4 of the Constitution is beyond the jurisdiction of this court. Because the National Parliament has the sole right to enact any law and amend the Constitution’.
Later on February 20, 2022, Sheikh Hasina’s cabinet approved the decision to recognize ‘Joy Bangla’ as the national slogan.
