Salim Reza and Mohammad Ali Sumon. Dhaka: The High Court of Bangladesh has acquitted all the accused, including the acting chairman of BNP, one of the main political parties of Bangladesh, Tarek Rahman, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the much-discussed August 21 grenade attack case.

Besides, the court also declared the charge sheet of this case illegal. The High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain gave this verdict after 1 o’clock on Sunday. According to the observation of the verdict, the name of the supplier of the grenade was not mentioned in the charge sheet of the case. Besides, the statement of the witnesses did not come up as to who threw the grenade at the spot. At that time, the judges also mentioned the arguments of the accused in the verdict. The court said that the charge sheet of the case was not accepted by the magistrate. This is a violation of the law. Earlier, Bangladesh’s lower court sentenced 19 people to death, including former state minister for home Lutfuzzaman Babar, former deputy minister Abdus Salam Pintu, in this case.

Besides, 19 accused including Tariq Rahman were sentenced to life imprisonment. Incidentally, after the formation of the interim government of Bangladesh, the sensational murder case was sent to the Bangladesh High Court from the office of the Chief Justice for the death reference and appeal hearing on October 23. Later on October 31, the prosecution started the hearing by reading the paper book of the case. The hearing on the death reference and appeal of the defendants ended on November 21.
