Rajeev Chakraborty: According to Bangladesh Hindu, Buddhist and Christian Unity Council, 1,769 incidents of communal attacks and vandalism have occurred since August 4, 2024. Of these, 2,010 incidents were reported on the lives, property and places of worship of minorities. The police reviewed the report of Oikya Parishad and contacted the affected persons. Inspections were carried out at the places and establishments mentioned in the report. The police have requested the victims to register their complaints and security has been ensured.

Out of these allegations, 35 people have been arrested based on 62 cases. The investigation revealed that most of the incidents were politically motivated, only 20 incidents were communal. Besides, 161 allegations were found to be false. On August 5, 2024, 82.8% of complaints were made on the day after Sheikh Hasina’s ouster. 1,452 incidents are claimed to have occurred that day.
The police said that the government is taking a strict stand against communal violence. Already 115 cases have been registered and 100 people have been arrested. Police has launched WhatsApp and 999 helpline, so that complaints from minority communities can be dealt with quickly. The interim government is giving utmost importance to the establishment of human rights.
