According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand has organized an emergency meeting to review the emerging situation in Myanmar and what to do with bordering countries. Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, China, Laos and Cambodia have been included in the meeting held in Bangkok. Towhid Hossain, foreign advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, will attend the meeting.

About the discussion in the meeting, an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh told G24 hours Bangladesh representative that the whole situation of Myanmar will be discussed. Due to the ongoing instability in Myanmar, various crimes including human trafficking, smuggling, drugs are increasing. These issues are expected to be discussed.

The entire 270 km Bangladesh-Myanmar border is now under the control of the Arakan Army. Meanwhile, the Arakan Army has imposed an indefinite ban on naval traffic in the Myanmar part of the Naf River bordering Bangladesh and Myanmar. After the ban, a warning has been issued for navigation in the Naf river in Bangladesh. BGB patrol has been increased in this incident.

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Ehsan Uddin Ji told 24 Hours Bangladesh correspondent on telephone that since the insurgent Arakan Army has occupied the other side of the border, we have maintained vigilance on the border so that no illegal infiltration takes place. The Arakan Army, a rebel group, has been waging a war against Myanmar’s junta government for more than eight months. Security analysts in Bangladesh say that in this ongoing war in Myanmar, the position of some organizations including the Arakan Rohingya Army-ARA and the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army or Arsa, the Rohingya subsidiary organization of Rakhine state, was on the side of the junta forces. Due to this, the control of the bordering Arakan State under the control of the insurgent group Arakan Army has raised fears of renewed Rohingya infiltration and prolonged repatriation of Rohingyas from Bangladesh.
