Bangladesh: All popular Indian channels are closing in Bangladesh?

Salim Reza, Dhaka: Instead, a writ has been filed in the High Court to stop broadcasting of all Indian TV channels in Bangladesh. A lawyer of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh Syeda Shaheen Ara Laili has filed a writ, said her lawyer Eklach Uddin Bhuiyan.
The lawyer said that the application may be heard in the high court bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Shikder Mahmudur Razi. Sections 19 and 20 of Bangladesh Cable Television Network Management Act 2006 have been mentioned in the application.
Section 19 of the Act on Restrictions on Broadcasting states that the programs which cannot be broadcast or transmitted by the cable television network of the service provider are:
(1) any event against the spirit and ideals of the integrity, independence, sovereignty and liberation war of Bangladesh; (2) any program contrary to the principles of state administration and state policy; (3) any program involving violence, terrorism, hatred or crime;
(4) any program against the history and tradition, education and culture, social and religious values, national unity and national image of Bangladesh; (5) any program prejudicial to national security or public interest;
(6) any program that may hurt the sentiments of any community or group in Bangladesh; (7) any program contrary to the Censorship of Films Act, 1963 or any rules or regulations made thereunder; (8) any program containing obscene or offensive jokes, gestures, choreography, advertisements, dialogues or subtitles;
(9) any obscene program involving nudity, nudity, nudity, exposure of the body, indecent gestures, sexually suggestive or symbolic dances or indecent scenes; (10) Any program which may attract and encourage disorder, vandalism, juvenile delinquency or sub-culture or may cause damage to the intellectual development of children.
(11) any program broadcast without preserving the objectivity of the original information; (12) films or any obscene program prohibited or censored by any other law; (13) advertising through any foreign channel to Bangladeshi viewers; (14) Broadcasting of any foreign channel program specifically aimed at Bangladeshi audience without the permission of the Government of Bangladesh.
Article 20 regarding the power to ban the activities of cable television networks in the public interest states that the Government of Bangladesh can ban the activities of any cable television network in the public interest in whole or in part at any place, at any time.
Lawyer Eklach Uddin Bhuiyan told the correspondent that currently various TV channels in India are violating various sub-sections of the Act. For this, a writ has been filed asking them to stop broadcasting.
Bangladesh Information Secretary, Home Secretary, Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Director General of Bangladesh Television and IG of Police have been made defendants in the writ.
