In this incident, about a hundred pilgrims (pilgrims) were injured on both sides.

On Wednesday, Gazipur Metropolitan Police’s Tongi West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habib Iskandar confirmed the news that 3 people were killed. On the other hand, Tabligh Jamaat’s top rabbi Syed Wasiful Islam also confirmed the news of the death of three worshipers to G24H’s Bangladesh correspondent. The deceased are Bachchu Mia (70) of Egarsindu area of ​​Pakundia Police Station, Kishoreganj, Bangladesh and Belal (60) of Belaid area of ​​Dakshin Khan, Dhaka. The other is Mohammad Tajul Islam (65) from Bogra, Bangladesh.

According to the police, tension was prevailing between the two groups over the joint Ijtema of Delhi’s Maulana Saad followers of Tabligh Jamaat for quite some time. Followers of Maulana Zubair of Dhaka from last November 29 to December 3 followers of Maulana Zubair observed Jhor Ijtema. After that, from December 20, the followers of Maulana Saad of Delhi occupied the Ijtema Maidan by announcing that they would resist if the followers of Maulana Saad of Delhi decided to organize a joint Ijtema. From Tuesday evening, the followers of Maulana Zubair of Dhaka set up guard around the Maidan and at various road junctions to prevent the entry of the followers of Maulana Saad of Delhi into the Ijtema Maidan.

On the other hand, Saad followers from different districts of Bangladesh started coming to the field in buses and trucks towards Ijtema Maidan. In the middle of the night, supporters of Zubair stopped the vehicles of Saad followers at various points on the road. At one point around 2.30 am Maulana Saad’s followers entered the Ijtema Maidan and chases and clashes took place between the two groups. Three people from both groups were killed and at least half a hundred worshipers were injured.

Since that incident, the situation in Ijtema Maidan and surrounding areas has been stagnant. A large number of police and RAB have been deployed to control the situation.
Tabligh Jamaat’s rabbi Syed Wasiful Islam Ji told 24 Hours Bangladesh correspondent over the phone that their joint Ijtema was supposed to start on December 20 at Tongir Ijtema Maidan. For the preparation of the field, worshipers from different regions of Bangladesh were coming and taking positions on the side of the road around the field. Seeing our preparations, pro-Jobair people attacked our people from outside. At one point a clash broke out between the people of both sides and our people entered the Ijtema Maidan. There was again a massive clash between the two groups. The injured in the clash at Ijtema ground were admitted to various hospitals in Dhaka including Tongi Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital.

Four platoons of BGB have been deployed in Tongi to bring the heated situation under control. To keep the law and order situation under control, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has banned all kinds of gatherings in the areas adjacent to the Uttara and Turag rivers.
