New Delhi: The main character of the artwork is a ripe banana. It is taped to the wall. Italian Maurizio Cattelan presented such art in his exhibition as Conceptualism or conceptual art. While there is a question as to whether or not a ripe banana taped to the eyes of the common man is recognized as a work of art, Jahuri’s eyes understand the appreciation of the artist. And so the cryptocurrency trader bought the artwork for about 52 crore rupees. (Viral News)
American New York auction house Sotheby’s recently organized a sale of famous artists’ creations. It was there on Wednesday that Maurizio’s creation, a taped ripe banana, sold for $6.2 million, which is roughly Rs. 52.36 crore in Indian currency. Sotheby’s was reported to be selling the artwork for such a hefty sum. “World’s most infamous banana sold for $6.2 million,” wrote social media. (Banana Taped to Wall)
Morizio refers to the tape-taped banana as an ‘Edible’ creation, that is, it is edible. In 2019, he first appeared on Miami Beach with the artwork. The artwork is named ‘Comedian’. At that time there was a lot of debate on the matter. The question arises as to whether the taped banana should be considered a work of art at all.

But Maurizio argued that the tape-taped art was actually a protest against the commercialization of art. Today, artwork has become a means of luxury everywhere in the world. Only the wealthy have access to the best works of art, the rest do not. He created this as a symbol of the fact that artwork is not a luxury item, everyone has equal rights to it.
Justin Sun, the founder of Crypto, an American cryptocurrency company of Chinese origin, has now bought Maurizio’s artwork. He told Sotheby’s, “It’s not just a work of art. It’s actually a cultural wonder, bridging the worlds of art, memes and cryptocurrencies. I believe this work of art will spark more discussion, think, and make history in the days to come.”
But even if he spends a lot of money to buy that artwork, how can Justin keep it alive? Bananas will rot? He is getting a certificate for it, which means that Maurizio is indeed the creator of it. Also, after a certain period of time, the rotten bananas can be replaced and planted with new ones.
Maurizio has always made headlines for such works of art. He had earlier made toilets with 18 carat gold. When Donald Trump became president in America for the first time, Maurizio offered him the use of the golden toilet in the White House.
