Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh on August 5 this year due to the anti-reservation movement. Since then, incidents of torture and attacks against the minority Hindus have been coming to the fore from the neighboring countries. Allegations of attacks on the houses and temples of minority Hindus are constantly being raised. It was in this context that Chinmaykrishna was recently arrested by the interim government of Muhammad Yunus. His bail plea was rejected by the court.
There are also demands to ban ISKCON in Bangladesh. However, the High Court recently dismissed the petition. However, Bangladesh government has frozen about 17 accounts of ISKCON. The Bangladesh government referred to ISKCON as a ‘religious fundamentalist organization’ in court, without saying anything for or against banning ISKCON. India has already condemned the situation. Diaspora Indians have appealed to US President Joe Biden to take action. In that atmosphere, Bangladesh has again raised its finger towards Delhi. They claim that the incidence of persecution of minorities in India is not less. From that point of view, minorities in Bangladesh are protected. They have also raised allegations of duality against Delhi. It is feared that the mutual relations between the two countries will deteriorate.
