Kolkata: The University Grants Commission has submitted a draft proposal for major changes in college-university admissions. It is known that college-university admission can be done twice a year from now. One time admission can be done in July-August month, second time admission can be done in January-February. (UGC News)
UGC submitted draft proposal for major reforms in higher education. The chairman of the organization opened his mouth to the media about the draft proposal. Besides taking admission twice a year, students of arts department can get admission in science department if they clear the entrance test. That is, students can choose subjects outside of the department they have studied in the higher secondary level. Again, the subject studied at the undergraduate level can be chosen at the postgraduate level. Just get off at the entrance. (Higher Education)
It has also been said that there will be a graduation course in three-four years from now. The postgraduate course will be in one or two years. The course will have multiple entries and exits. Minimum Standards of Instruction for the Grant of Undergraduate Degree and Postgraduate Degree Regulations 2024 has been submitted by UGC. Mamidala Jagdesh Kumar, Head of UGC, said, “Through the draft proposal, the aim is to transform higher education in India. It will also benefit students, increase opportunities for inclusion, students will get opportunities to learn multiple subjects.” Even if desired, there will be an opportunity to obtain degrees in two subjects at the undergraduate and postgraduate level simultaneously, he said.
UGC has also proposed to relax the minimum eligibility for admission. The UGC chief said that if they get 50 percent marks in any subject, they will get an opportunity to get additional marks for training, skill development, internship and other subjects. He said that such a decision is to make the Indian education system world class.
